The primary goal of the Art Directors Film Society is to honor and celebrate
the careers and achievements of designers who have made significant
contributions to the advancement of excellence in the design of motion
pictures. This distinctive film series gives ADG members and industry
professionals, students, educators, film buffs and the public a unique
opportunity to take a closer look at the process of designing motion
pictures from the designer's perspective. Through first person accounts
of their experiences, the Art Directors and Production Designers we
honor give us all the unusual chance to explore the creative origins
of many of the classic film and television images they have created,
introduce us to others that are now rarely seen and give us a glimpse
into what the future may hold for the art of visual storytelling. Each
new program presents a different aspect of motion picture Art Direction
placed in its historical context and illustrated through examples of
great design.

The
Film Society Screenings are held at The Director's Guild of America
in Hollywood, California on Sunday afternoons.
The programs include a full-length screening of a film or television
program and/or excerpts from works, which significantly illustrate the
honoree's unique talents and design contributions to our industry. Also
included is a visual presentation of the designer's concept drawings,
models, production illustrations and research sources. A reception is
held on behalf of our special guests prior to the screening and Q&A
interview.
Our programs are recorded for the archives of the Motion Picture Academy
and the Art Directors Guild. The Film Society Chair is Linda Berger. |
